Each week I will be introducing 5 new sight words. We will be working on reading these words as well as working on spelling these words. Each Monday, I will be sending home a spelling packet with the five words we are working on each week.
Weekly Homework Routine… Monday - your child is asked to trace each one of the words on the sheet, and then write them again at least three more times in their best penmanship. Tuesday - they are should work on the word boxes sheet by filling each word wall word in the appropriate word boxes. Wednesday - they will work on the Word Search page Thursday - I would like to have your child ask an adult to give them a practice spelling test on the five words.
The students need to cut out the flashcards at home and keep them in the plastic word wall bag provided. Each week I will send home new words and they can add these words to their bag. I encourage the students to practice these words on a daily basis as needed. The more fluent students are in reading and spelling these word wall words, the more successful they will be with their reading and writing throughout the year. The spelling homework packet should be returned to school with your child on Fridays. The students will take the word wall test on Friday afternoons.
*When we have a short week of school, I will not be introducing any new words, we will be reviewing the words that we have worked on during the year.
